Get Involved

You don’t need to be an experienced developer to join FOSS Galaxy. Many members started by learning, asking questions and making their first contributions.

FOSS Galaxy is a community of developers, students, educators and technology enthusiasts. Whether you’re an experienced contributor or just getting started with Free and Open Source Software, you’re welcome to join us.

The easiest way to get involved is to say hello in our Matrix chat.

Join the conversation

The easiest way to get involved with FOSS Galaxy is to join our Matrix community. There, members chat, share ideas, collaborate on projects and help each other learn.

We run our own Matrix server as part of our community infrastructure. It provides a central home for FOSS Galaxy members while remaining part of the wider, federated Matrix network.

If you already have a Matrix account, you can join us using it. If you don’t have one, creating a free account is straightforward. The Element web client is a popular way to get started.

Once you’re connected, introduce yourself and let us know what interests you. Whether you’re looking to contribute to software projects, learn new skills, ask questions or simply follow along, you’re welcome.

What can I contribute?

There are lots of ways to take part:

You don’t need to be an expert, and you don’t need to commit to a particular project. Join the conversation to get involved.

Membership

FOSS Galaxy is an open community, and anyone is welcome to join our discussions, use our software and participate in our projects. Join us and get involved.

Members who become more involved in the community may be invited to join our membership programme, which provides access to additional community services and infrastructure. This invitation-based membership path is built on trust built through participation and collaboration.
